The Godfather Sandwich

The Godfather Sandwich

This is a sandwich that's fit for a Don and can easily feed the family. No need for a smoker for this one if you have a Blackstone griddle this will be easy peezy but if not no worries this can be made in batches on the stove top in a pan. We make this in 2 parts - first the Black Truffle Garlic Bread then the Italian sausage filling.

Ingredients list

Black Truffle Garlic Bread

  • large loaf of Italian bread
  • 12 cloves garlic ( diced)
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1tbs Fresh Parsley ( chopped)
  • 1/4 cup shredded Parmigiano Reggiano
  • 1/2 tsp Black Truffle spread ( we used Wegmans brand and widely available on Amazon)

Italian Sausage filling

  • 6 links of Italian sausage mild or hot
  • 2 medium onions sliced thin
  • 4 Italian peppers chopped
  • 12 oz of Bella mushrooms chopped
  • 8 oz of imported Provolone cheese
  • American BBQ Project Beer garlic seasoning
  • 1/2 bottle Millers Banana Pepper Mild sauce

 Black Truffle Garlic Bread

Make your compound Butter ( make the night before so the flavors party together)

Step 1: Melt both sticks of butter over medium heat

Step 2: add your garlic and cook until golden brown

Step 3: Remove from heat then add in the fresh parsley and black truffle spread. If making ahead of time leave it covered on your countertop and mix with a spatula before spreading. OR if your in a hurry jump to the next step

Step 4: Cut the loaf of bread in half, spread your butter generously on both halves and sprinkle with Parmigiano Reggiano

Step 5: Bake in the oven at 450 for approximately 8 minutes. Your looking for it to turn golden brown and lightly crispy. Rotate the bread 180 degrees midway through to ensure an even cook. Once your happy with it pull it out and let it cool down a little.

Italian Sausage filling

Prep your filling

Step 1: Slice the sausages into 1/2" rounds and slice and dice all the vegetables how you like

Step 2: Heat up your griddle on medium high heat and add a light coat of cooking oil ( we used grapeseed)

Step 3: Toss all your ingredients onto the griddle keeping meat and Veggies separated to ensure the meat is properly cooked.

Step 4: Season the veggies with beer garlic generously.

Step 5: As the sausage cooks begin chopping with your spatula so it is like cheesesteak consistency

step 6:  When the sausage looks fully cooked, combine everything together into one pile and top with the sliced provolone and allow that to melt down. At this point I would put your garlic bread on the cool side of the griddle so it warms up if needed.

Step 7: The fun part - put both halves of your garlic bread next to each other, Scoop as much of the filling on top of the bread as you can, Then pour on the millers banana pepper sauce. Fold over, cut in half or 4ths and enjoy.

Modifications to try - Adding in some banana peppers for extra heat or using the hot versions of Miller's banana pepper sauce would also be awesome. We kept it mild because of the kids.
